I am looking for some good, cheap winter tights for the wife (honest). She currently wears some Rohnill Bikestars over her shorts which is very practical but she needs something that looks and performs a bit better. Non bib and un-padded would be perfect as she has some expensive shorts that she loves although would consider padded full bib if the price is right. Has anyone seen anything good in the sales that I can impress her with as I forgot Valentines day and our wedding anniversary last week so could do with getting out of the dog house.
Cheers

I just got the mrs some Skins Pro bib tights (I would only buy bib anything personally) for £44 (71% off).
They are in the current chainreactioncycles 'private sale' (which ends Monday) so I am not sure if you have shopped with them to have received an invite.
Skins are not that thick, but it depends how warm you want them.

the Mrs had a try on of loads of bibtights just before xmas (Craft, Assos, Altuta, Campag, Sportful ...)

and the winner was the DHB Vaeon Roubaix (padded, nonbib)

Un-padded bib tights over the good padded sorts is probably your best bet.

Have you exhausted your LBS offerings? Nothing beats trying stuff on in a situation such as this.

AND you really need to work on your memory skills man! :-)

I think I should have got the Roubaix tights, I just got the ordinary Vaeon non-bib tights, having been very pleased with my Aeron shorts. The tights aren't a great fit around the waist for me and don't have a drawstring so tend to slip down a bit if you're wearing the shorts underneath. Next time I'd spend the extra to get the Roubaix or something from someone else. Or even, shock horror, succumb to wearing bib tights.
  • Thanks everyone, I had had a CRC invite but have never opened them before as assumed it was just a general sale that anyone could log into, how wrong I was !!! Skins bibs were just too good a bargain to resist plus got a couple of other bits as well. Thanks Carbonator.
Have heard good things about the DHB kit but with Skins at 71% off the scales tipped that way, thanks Jane.
Smidsy, tell me about it, going to be an expensive loss of memory, at least the wife will think I was REALLY sorry when she thinks she is getting a £150 pair of bibs, Thanks CRC
  • The wife's Skins Bibs arrived and she they look fantastic, I wish I had brought a pair of men's for myself. Unfortunately she had quite a big off on ice so I hope they are not jinxed, she ripped her merino jersey but the Skins came off ok with no evidence of the off except needing a wash.
Stupidly I did not read the sizing chart and got ones that are 1 size up on the recommended size, they still fit her but I guess she is not getting the Skins compression benefits. They only slight negative is that they are not super warm but I did not buy Roubaix tights so did not expect them to be.
Highly recommended (as long as they are not jinxed) its a shame they are no longer 71% off, just need to get a replacement jersey now :(
