Hi there guys

I just got this frame, GT GTR carbon, and I'm a bit confuse with the headset.
As you can see on the pictures the frame seems to have cups already installed on it? or seems like it !
I had a new headset cane creek ZS-3 to be fitted and my question is:

What about those "cups" that are already inside the frame and clearly came originally with the frame as part of it because the transparent film of the carbon is covering the edges of it.

So... do I need to push the new cup inside the other cups? They seems to fit perfectly with a bit of push a (with the right tool obviously)

please check the link with the pictures so my questions, hopefully, make a bit more sense.

Thanks in advance

If you are having to use any force to press in bearings, it's likely you've got the wrong headset - most road frames use drop-in bearings. Check manufacturer's spec - different types can be as little as 0.2mm difference in diameter
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    Hi Monty

No as I'm just trying to fit the cups.
The bearings fits perfectly on the new Cane cups not force needed.

looks like the frame takes an integrated headset.

you have a Zerostack/internal/semi integrated headset.

send the headset back it is wrong.

    presuming 2013 frame?

i would still say wrong headset.

but i do not know and can not see any info. but it does look like it takes an integrated bearing. and no cup.

I think you r right Nick... after checking a few pictures of how a Integrated headset looks like... I think I'll return the Semi-integrated. Lucky me that chainreaction.co.uk it's a hassle free company.

I'll post some pictures when I have all sorted so can helps others.

    Thanks a lot !!!

I just measure the inside diameter, it's 44mm. Can you suggest me an integrated headset for it? if its possible can you post the link?

    Thanks again guys.

any as all they are are a pair of bearings. a crown race a centring collar and a top cover.

you can get then with different height top covers if you dont want lots of spacers seen.

OK put the internet down now and take it to a bike shop.

    Why?

    as we can see here
    headseth.jpg
    there is a cup.
there was a bearing that would fit in it a TH-871 ACB 36' x 36' x 44mm x 8mm (red seal) BUT as it is a carbon frame that might be confusing the matter and maybe the headset you have bought will be pressed into it.

but getting it out might be fun.

needs a GT specialist to sort this out. or some one to have a look and measure and decide.

Well at the end the right one was a HOPE 2 INTEGRAL ZS44/28.6 and the correspondent B for the bottom.

Big thanks to the Evans Cycles tech guy in central London... he saw the cup and pick straight away the right headset.

Thanks guys of the forum and I hope this info will be helpful in the future.

is the base of the headset with the rubber seal. Is not fully pressed yet as I dont have the stem just yet, but is not an actual gap at all.
