Carbone SL's, FFWD F6R, AC Carbon 58 or alternative

I am interested in getting a set of deep section clinchers with an alloy braking rim (I won't call them carbon clinchers) for the summer and my shortlist at the moment is:
Mavic Cosmic Carbone Sl £750ish 1,740g
FFWD F6R (FFWD hub and sale price) £675 1,835g
AC Carbon 58 (2012 model price) £675 1,880g
Shimano RS80 50mm £500 1,785g
Are there any others I should be adding to this shortlist, in or around these prices? I have had a look through most of the retailers and nothing else stands out.
Weightwise they all seem to quite similar if the specs are to be believed.
I'm not the lightest rider (85kg ish) although trying to get down to about 80kg so I want something that is reasonable robust. I can get plenty of reviews on the RS80's and Carbone's but not so many on the FFWD's or AC's. I would be using the wheels generally for club run's, sportives, club races and some tt's.
In terms of aesthetics, I like all of the above wheels
I currently own a set of Ksyrium SL's which I will continue to use for climbing and I also have a set of RS80 C24's. Are the RS80 50mm basically the exact same wheel as the C24 with the addition of the carbon profile?
Any and all advice appreciated!

A lot of money for some heavy wheels there. Can I suggest buying RS80s, but in 24mm profile. Or better still, the DA24s.0

I know. I think that is why I'm having a hard time convince myself to push the buy button. To be honest, most of it is just for the "bling" factor.
I already have the 24mm version of the RS80's.0 -
I'm struggling with the logic that is telling you to spend more money on wheels that will not perform as well as the set you already have. But logic is probably near the back of the queue when it comes to wheels, I guess..0

Have a look on here - you can get a set of 50mm full carbon clinchers that are around 1500g for £650 (more with fancy hubs but the basic ones are still ok) posted to your door. I don't have any myself but they seem to be well regarded. Worth a look anyway.

Not sure they match his brief Jeff.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Surely the Cosmic Carbone... They look much better than the competitors and as it is about the look, they are the clear winnerleft the forum March 20230

I agree, the Moda in the summer bike thread is what sold them for me. Hadn't considered them until then!0 -

I was just thinking exactly the same thing, that if it came to resale the cosmics would sell better.0 -

so you already have RS80s and Ksyrium SLs - and you still want another pair of wheels that cost more, but won't be as good ?0 -
The RS80 C24 will be sold and the Ksyriums will be used as my every day wheel. There must be some reason why a lot of guys in the road bike section have the likes of cosmics etc fitted, even if that reason is vanity.0

Vanity is almost certainly the reason. At least you're honest though...0 -
I've got Cosmic Carbones and they're decent wheels... stiff, aero and they look the part, plus they sounds like there's a car behind you. I use mine as every day wheels (albeit on my summer bike).
That said, they're pretty heavy and all-in they are a compromise.
If you've got Ksyriums for everyday, then why not go the whole hog and get some 50mm carbon clinchers, or better still, 50mm carbon tubs. £399 will get you a pair of Planet X 50/82mm or spend more for a Gigantex wide rim on decent hubs which will out perform the Cosmics (and look just as blingy).0 -
I have the SLR carbones and use them every day. Re bling. performance, weight I found the following to be useful even if starting to get a bit old in terms of subseuent upgrades, etc.

Sorry guys, I dont get to post on here often but I am now stuck between a number of issues and open to suggestions.
I have a 2009 Pinnacle Aeos3 carbon (dont laugh - ride to work scheme has to be via Evans!) and its running on Fulcrum Evo 5's and Sram Rival kit.
I have just cancelled my order for a new Colnago CLX 3.0 white/Italia/Ultegra because the waiting list is months in my size. I was going to get a better set of rims for the Colnago as the standard RS30's were not up to the rest of the bike.
I am now swaying between a new set of F6R's for the pinnacle and upgrade the rest (frame etc) another time or going mad on a Dolan Ares with Sram S60 or 80's.
I too like the deep rims (dont we all) but it sounds like I am going to spend £700 + on a Set of Mavic CC's or F6R's and they might be a waste of money.
What shall Ido ?!
thanks

These kind of wheels are always a poor compromise. I have some Mavic Carbones and they are strong. The Shimano are probably the best quality from that list and look a bargain at £500. If you have found the c24s ok go for those.
ps you can't use them on the club run though0 -
Aren't there two different sets here?
The FFWD and AC are carbon rims with welded on alu brake surfaces.
The other two are, (correct me) alu wheels with either a welded on fairing or bonded on carbon. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I'm sure Ugo.S can build you something that will out perform the Carbone SL's for probably less than £750
This is coming from someone who already owns a pair of SL's.
Putting it into all into perspective, they perform marginally better than my stock wheels but in terms of looks, are in a league of their own. It's all about priorities.0 -

Not sure how much this wheelset would set you back (probably an arm and leg) but do you not prefer the more modest look of these instead of those carbone SL's which IMO are not true carbon clinchers. The carbon feels tacky and is adhered onto the shallow rim (which is metal).0
