Hi

Newbie to the site and to road cycling so go easy!!!

I know this has been done to death but.........I am looking to buy my first pair of road shoes with a budget of no more than £100.00. Comfort and ventalation are most important to me as I will be doing longer rides rather than racing. So far I have looked at:

Shimano 106
Mavic Avenge (recommended by my LBS)
Northwave Fighter SBS (best looking and match my bike!)

Any ideas, thoughts or recommendations? I should add that I have Shimano 105 5700 SPD-SL pedals.

Cheers!

  • I have owned two pairs of Specialized Comp BG which are excellent and used to cost about 100 pounds... not sure how much they cost now.
I do like light shoes, as they don't overload your ankle... so a carbon sole can be a useful thing

Same advice as I give with helmets. Go to a shop and try some on. Same as any shoe. Some fit your feet better than others although they say same size. Check you have plenty of room around your toes and they support your arches.

Don't pay attention to other peoples experience with a certain brand in regards to fitting. Unless you have identical feet that doesn't mean jack.

You need to try some on really, since they tend to fit very differently. So your LBS, or probably order what you want and if they dont fit then send them back.

Giro Factors are little over £100 at the moment, far better than the ones you've listed (providing they fit!)
