Hi I have just bought a nice carbon pinarello frame from someone for this site I was wondering if there is a correct way to building a bike do u start from the front rear or bb and work your way around ?
Or is it as you please with bits n bobs ?

This is my first proper build I'm mechanically minded so I hope I shouldn't have problems I also have the tools at hand.i built a bitzer up as I call it with my brother when I was about 14 and was made up of bits from other bikes but I would like to do this properly so any help and tips would be a big help guys

This is my frame not this one but the same

I have just done the same as you with a frame I bought here. I would get the headset and the forks done first - not sure why. Bottom bracket is as good a place as any. I think I went in this order:

    Headset, forks
    BB
    Cranks
    Front mech
Rear wheel and cassette, tube and tyre
    Front wheel, tube and tyre
    Bars, shifters and stem
    Rear mech
    Brakes
    Cables
    Seatpost, saddle

Finish off by applying bar tape and indexing derailleurs, for which the pedals help.

  • not sure there is a right way or wrong way about this, but would imagine you want the cables to be pulled through the internal routing without anything obstructing you first

the wheels are second after you attached all your "tendons and muscles", and then the saddle adjustments and stems/bars then tapes etc as they are not mechanically linked to any drivetrain

That's exactly the same as I would start when building a bike. As it's pre-owned the bb bracket area has probably been faced, or didn't need to be faced I don't know, and if you're not sure about the headset, take it to a GOOD LBS, you may have done this yourself before of course.

I am sure we can make a coherent sentence out of that eventually

    Yeah, something like that.

I have no idea what's going on here.

Lets hope his bike builds are more coherent than his sentences! Thingamajig the put bottom bracket insert the cable gear in the torque adjustment wheels the stem to the saddle making sure calipers inserted slack before both crankset headset anticlockwise cutting bars rotate the shifters.
