Apologies that this isn't really road related, but what the hey!

Getting a Morewood Kwela 29er next week, and will be doing the C2C on it in May, can anyone recommend me some slick or semi-slick tyres please? Got some Schwalbe Land Cruiser's for my 26" wheeled bike, and they seem decent, but open to any reasonably priced suggestions. :)

The bike's got DT Swiss X470 rims fitted, and the specs say they'll take 1.5 to 2.25" tyres, so I think something around 40mm should be a good compromise between comfort and rolling resistance.

Take a look at CX tyres?

  • Here you go, cheap but slightly heavy 700x40c:

Or the fast rolling Sammy slicks although it only comes with 35c:

I use the Hurricanes and would recommend them but they are only for the 26.

Thanks for the replies, edited my OP, I actually have the Land Cruiser's in 26", doh! Just weighed the 26x1.9's that I've got, and they're about 850g, so 615g for the 29" actually seems relatively light!

CX tyres might be a very good shout, as we've got a couple of off road sections in the C2C, so a little tread could come in handy. Off to Bike Discount to compare prices! ;)

CX tyres are a terrible idea... not only they are incredibly slow on the tarmac, but they have virtually no puncture resistance. They are designed for the mud, not for the glass. I would look into touring tyres... Vittoria Randonneur, Panaracer Pasela or something equivalent from Continental. 28-32 mm ideally

Thanks for the reply, the only problem I may have there is that the spec for my rims says minimum 1.5" or 38mm, hence why I was looking at 35mm minimum to be on the safe side. Do you think they'd be OK with much narrower tyres? The Vittoria Randonneur are available in 35mm, are only about £13, and seem to get decent reviews.

Edit, in fact the Pro version seems perfect, and only £15 for the 37mm version - http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TYV ... ipe___37mm

    Or 32, 35 and 37mm versions too - http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/TYVTRNDCPR/ ... lding_tyre

Ha ha, will do, think I'll get the Pro folding ones from Planet X, cheap, relatively light, and reflective too, thanks for the input! 8)

WTB Terrain Comp for 12 quid at CRC. i've had the earlier model for 3 years, they've been back and forth along the Southdowns Way a few times, roll quick on tarmac and have endured hundreds of miles of flinty fire roads and trails.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Will keep them in mind for next time, already ordered the Vittoria Randonneur Pro's from Planet X along with 2 road and 2 MTB tubes, thanks. :)
