Upgrading My Bike

Hi Guys,

I recently bought a second hand Specialized Allez, which I believe to be around 4/5 years old. it still rides nicely and everything is in pretty good working order.

However, I'm looking to upgrade my components and was seeking some advice on this.

I'm not a terribly serious rider but I do ride every day and I'm also in training for a London to Monte Carlo cycle in June. I currently have the standard Shinamo Tiagra groupset and Alex Rims. I was wondering if anyone could give me some help as to what I should perhaps look to upgrade first, and would give me a noticeable difference whether it be the groupset, wheels or frame?

Obviously some weight saving would be nice but I'm obviously after reliable and durable components. Also, if you could give me an idea as to how much I should spend to make it worthwhile I'd be really grateful.

Many thanks,
Joe

  • The simple answer would be the wheels. This would usually give you the most noticeable difference in terms of weight saved and ride quality. There are some good buys around at the moment, I guess it depends on how much you want to spend, and I'm sure there will be plenty of advice on here as to which wheels offer the best bang for your bucks.
