All,
Looking to by a towbar bike rack to help transport bikes.
Ideally want one that will accommodate 2-3 bikes - family bikes but also securely and safely transport my crossbikes and best carbon bike if the need arises -i.e holidays/sportive etc...

At the moment Im looking towards the Thule 2 Bike EuroWay G2. Its more than I want to pay but seems to be the best bet. Interested in recommendations/alternatives people may have....

Particularly interested in most safe/secure rack for the carbon road bike...

Thanks.

  • Have a Thule & whilst it cost me an arm & leg it is very good indeed. Well made, holds the bikes safely whilst in transport & is pretty secure too.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

I have this one Atera STRADA DL 3 to 4 bike carrier.
Expensive but solid and more importantly holds the bikes in place.

+3 - Eurosomething or other. Tilts for access to the boot (essential, it really is) and locks on very simply to the towbar and also the bikes onto the rack. Top bit of kit.

but I have to say I am a big fan of the Altera one. The sliding/tilting rack is very clever.

had the euroway (G3 i think) for about 5 years now and its great. substantial, easy to use, folds so you can access the boot etc. and its been bullet proof for 1000's of miles here and abroad. totally worth the money.
  • Thule owned for two years. It carries up to four bikes (quite tight fit) but utterly solid and reliable.

  • Thanks for all the replies guys...
Looks like I will go for the Thule 2 Bike EuroWay G2..
Just wondering is there much advantage with the newer model of this rather than getting a cheap second older version..

Looks like the new model is lighter and i dont think the old one has the arms to clamp onto the top of the frame...
  • Always worth checking the various model numbers out. There are always "budget" (cough) and higher end versions. It's worth making sure that you get the model that has the "arms" to clamp (although you'll often have fun working out how to get the past other bikes), the easiest tilt mechanism (handle or foot operated) so that you can get in and out of the boot easily and the most straightforward towbar securing/tightening mechanism THAT LOCKS! (It's a pain in the arse to be mucking about with spanners, as some of their older models required, to get them tight.)
