  • Stripped of paint for the more authentic look, WTF?

I've seen cheese look less mouldy looking than that, when I first saw it I thought they were going to tell me it was a classic recovered off the Titanic ship wreck!!!
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

I had one of those stems back in the day, a mate had it off me and he used it on his turbo trainer bike. After a few weeks of sweating on it it turned green and snapped, and that was with its protective coating !!!!!

Have you never wondered why they don't make magnesium fork lowers that aren't covered in a thick layer of protective paint?

    No.

Had magnesium alloy wheels on a car once, looked great until a salty winter, 4 months later they looked really manky!

    We'll make a suspension stem!
But what happens when the elastomer wears/shrinks?
Well, your handlebars will only be connected to your bike by a hinge.
Oh, OK. But I expect that'll take a long time before it happens.
    Oh yeah. Hours in fact!
Hmm. Well what can we do to offset that?
Well, we could make it unneccesarily pointy for when you smash your balls into it because you tried to ride something while having your handlebars only connected to your bike by a hinge?

Pah, luxury compared to the components we used to carve out of stone when I was a lad.
    It hasn't killed me yet.
But that bike lives at the school and only really gets used for the school MTB club. And old as the combination is, still stays ahead of the younger combos.
The proof. (Obviously I'm taking the pic)

So you send them off on a lap and don't even ride yourself then?
