Front wheel sat in forks

I've just fitted some crud racers but was short on clearance by 1mm or so on the front wheel.
The front wheel was originally set in the forks with weight on the forks meaning the axle/hub couldn't be any further in. To accommodate the mud guards, I have dropped the front wheel out of the forks by a mm or two and no more?

Any one foresee any issues?

Wheel scewers should be fully engaged into the drop outs.

If you have 25mm tyres swap them for 23's that may give you the addedd clearance required.

I wouldn't be doing that either. You're asking more of the QR clamp than it's designed for. If you hit a pothole and one side of the axle is pushed back into the dropout the wheel would be suddenly hitting the brake block or the fork itself.
  • Your forks should always be fully seated in your dropouts! Otherwise, as keef66 says, if your front end takes a hit one side could seat into the fork and the other side may not. This could cause the wheel to either start rubbing against the brake block and/or fork, or worse it could move so much that it jams and you go flying over the bars.

I've fitted loads of those mudguards in my time. Just make sure the cable tie is tight around the brakes and try moving the feet of the mudguard stays up the fork a little more.

Once everything is fitted grab the mudguard and pull it up away from the wheel firmly (it will bend a little) and then it usually seats into place when you let go.

Depending on how well you installed the mudguards originally you could try removing the little black sticky discs that they tell you to fit that go between the top of the mudguard and the crown of the fork. That might give you a little more room to tightly the cable tie a little more. That's only if you caught it in the instructions and fitted them in the first place. Lot's of people miss it.
