They'll both do what you want. If you do go for the Ribble, you'll thank yourself in the long run if you pay a little extra and get the next wheels up on the option list. The weight you'll save for the £30 or so of the upgrade is probably the best value weight saving you'll ever make!

200g ? :-) although I would choose them as I think they have sealed bearings.

I must close the ribble website.......
  • Is there much difference between the tiagra and the sora group sets.

Might be that the saving is greater in the Campag options (Rodis to Khamsins) but even 200g is an amount people will pay £100s to save!

Anyway, don't let me stop you from planning to spend money

I think it is the Merlin Malt-R road bike you are describing.

I am in the same dilemma as you, want a road bike for £700, I have looked at everything and considered all sorts.. Can't see past the Merlin for that price to be fair. A good improvement on last years Malt-R frame wise in my opinion.

I'm also looking at a Btwin Triban 3 aswell as I may end up using it to commute and as a winter bike so dont think spending £675 to give it a hard life is justified.

On the other hand If I bought the Btwin I doubt id be able to afford much better than the Merlin as my "good bike" anyway.

So I may just get the Merlin and use it for good days only to work and walk or run the other days... Just until the bank balance reads N+1 of course.

    Decisions.. Decisions!
  • Anyone used leisure wheels as they have a felt z95 with shimano 105 gear it's just the shifters just say sti and not like 5700 are these ok .what about the rest of the bike. Thinking about going to Evans cycles over weekend, just for a look :D. Any help would be great thanks

I picked up a 2013 Felt F85 a fortnight ago but , due to a heavy cold and crap weather it's still in the garage and not turned a wheel !!
I also considered the Ribble but a lbs had the Felt reduced by £100 to £700 so I went for it. My immediate thoughts are
change the saddle (the Felt one is rock hard) and ride it , no upgrades until things wear out .

The lambasting of sora is a tad unjustified, there are plenty of riders who have it on winter bikes with nary a complaint or problem and for budget shifters if they are set up right they do the job just fine.
