Cycling, according to Dick Pound, may now be out of the Olympics if he UCI is dropped in it by Lance.

Pound's been saying the same thing ever since he left WADA. Nothing ever comes of it.

No it won't. No-one at the IOC listens to Pound.

Rio have already built the velodrome and the road races show off the sights. It also does well in the TV ratings. Cycling isn't going anywhere.

I can't see the IOC sitting on thier hands if Verbruggen and McQuaid et al are implied in systemic doping.
It's just how far the IOC wants to go.

If cycling goes then track events and weight lifting should have been dropped years ago

  • Verbruggen is on the IOC, they won't kick out cycling for things brought about by one of its members. They will probably increase the number of events and reward it for raising awareness of something or other.

Mate, I don't know how they do it over in Ireland, but if you 'pound' it, you're doing it wrong.
  • Officlal IO spokesman (i.e. NOT Pound), he say, not likely

It is about money. Cycling pulls in a ton of people and is quite a good earner for the IOC. It isn't going anywhere.

I suppose the IOC could get round things at the Olympics by returning the competition to amateur status for cycling.
Trouble is these days even the local cycling club has got some kind of sponsorship.

Just a question about Dick Pound; how is he a Dick? I guess a bad point would be that a lot of the LA thing happened on his watch but since getting out of WADA, he has turned in to a harsh critic.
Is it that he's Poacher turned Gamekeeper or what?

I don't think this will happen. Let's hope I'm not proven wrong...

Que? Pound was a harsh critic when he was running WADA. To the point that I thought he was saying things inappropriate for the leader of WADA. But he's not really changed his tune. Ok, he's delusional about the nobility of the olympics but aside from that.

I know there is a human trait of facing 2 ways at the same time but if he was genuine about his strong anti doping stance then he's less of a "Dick" and maybe as "Sound as a Pound". (Did you like that??) ;) Jerry
