My slightly ropey sounding freehub finally died on the commute in today. Not too bad as only 1 mile from work although I would have maybe preferred a summers day rather than snow! The annoying thing is a new set of wheels is being delivered home today so if it could just have hung on one more day.
So I can get home, does anyone know of some magic way of turning it into a fixie with only the contents of an office to help? Paperclips and gaffer tape can fix anything right?

Use some cable ties if you have them to hold largest sprocket tight against the spokes?
Should work but obviously may not be the best thing for your spokes. If you're getting new wheels anyway, no worries0 -
how cold was london? Might it have just frozen up on the way in??
Not any really feasable way of fixing it for the ride home that I can think of. Perhaps see if you can lash the cassette to the spokes to give you a very ginger amount of lock so you can twiddle home in a very easy gear?0 -
Thanks guys.
It was cold this morning but not massively so. The freehub gave way last year and I degreased and flushed with oil which bought me some time but have stupidly chosen to ignore it becoming a bit dodgy again.
I was pondering nipping out for some GT85 at lunch and trying to spray some in but with the cassette installed I guess it would be pretty impossible to get it to flow into the right place. Looks like the train for me.....0 -
Right, decided to cable tie it after all. Chance of it holding 20%, chance of me surviving riding a bodged fixie if it does hold, 1%. Wish me luck.0

I do indeed wish you luck. In addition to your transmission problems it's now bucketing down with snow. Not the best conditions for your first foray into fixed gear riding :shock:0

Yeah, bottled it. Going to push the bike to Cannon Street.0
