Need a new crankset

Well, not sure whether I actually "need" a new crankset, but I would like one. At present, my bike has the FSA Gossamer BB30 which is heavy and it's aesthetics are non-existent. It suppose to weigh something like 950g which to me sounds completely excessive!

I'm looking for something that is a little smoother, and much, much lighter! I've got in mind the 2011 SRAM Red from wiggle - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-red-gxp-do ... nset-2011/

Even though it weights 750g, the price seems quite reasonable. However, I would prefer lighter still. The lighter SRAM Red drive trains are more expensive, but are they worth the extra £100?

I don't want to get something completely unnecessary, but at the same time I want something decent and light.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat as you so looking at FSA or Rotor at the mo because I'm running Shimano. Prob end up going FSA. Think Sram might look a bit odd with my set up which is a shame because I like their cranksets.

Force cranks are cheaper and are argueably easier to match b/c they're black with a bit of white, whereas the REd has red. If you need bits of red then get the Red.

Rotor cranks are very nice but are "of a certain time" and might date quickly...just a thought.

you have BB30 which needs an adaptor to fit the external Bearing systems such as GXP system. the adaptor will add about 100g over the crankset.

you best bet is to find a SRAM BB30 or FSA BB30 crankset. SLK light crankset is about 650g with BB30 or K-force which is sub 600 but massively expensive.

your gossamer shouldn't be that heavy to be fair, i think it's about 800g so you are not getting a massive reduction for what is a fairly expensive upgrade :)

tho i have upgraded to SL-K light recently from Omega, but that's almost 450g savings...but with second hand parts

630g with BB. A little expensive at £242 but a decent colour nonetheless. I hate the FSA Gossamer. Dirty looking (without being dirty) piece of poo. Absolutely hate it! Not very keen on my 105 shifters either, but they can remain on the bike for now.

keep an eye out on ebay for cheap second hand variety...SRAM & FSA do bb30 cranks and also Rotor but rotor is expensive

also cannondale...some people would strip the cannondale chainset off the supersix which is effectively a SL-K light or cannondale's own system which is also very light

You probably won't notice any difference weight wise, or be smoother, but something like Rotor you'll notice the stiffness

Surely there'll be some difference, no? I'm a tart, and aesthetics is also important. I'm looking for a dark chainset, but one that also performs well.

Rotor is expensive isn't it? I'll check! :-)

What's 200g compared to the weight of you and the bike ?

It's a big slurp of water. Cheaper having a wee before you go out.
