Going Clipless - dhb shoes and R540 pedals

I'm thinking of trying out clipless, having looked around the Wiggle dhb road shoes and Shimano R540s seem like a pretty good budget option. What do you guys think?
I'm also considering a SPD setup if it means I can walk easier and so I can pedals with a flat side if I want to ride with normal shoes occasionally. How hard is it to actually walk in road shoes? I'm in student accomodation so it's a ~50m walk with some stairs to where I store my bike.

Exactly my first SPD-SL combination and I am still riding them. Great shoes, good pedals, can't go wrong.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

R540's are fine pedals for the money and won best budget pedal last year.
They use the same bearings and clip system as all Shimanos expensive range (including DA) and the only real negative is they have a plastic plate as opposed to a metal one which in theory will wear out quicker....I have been using some for a year and done over 3000miles on them without issue.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Same combo as me, not had any issues in the last 2 years of riding them. They are not difficult to walk in, but I wouldn't want to do too much walking on tarmac or similar surfaces as the cleat will wear out0
