I'm considering buying a Tricross from my local Edinburgh bike shop as my first road bike. They have the Sport '11 and '12 models both priced at £699. Is this a good deal, and which bike is better? The guy working there said the '11 model has the higher spec?

  • have the Tricross and use it as a commuter and winter bike. Love it!!
Mine has triple rings up front with tiagra gearing which is slick and changes well. The larger tyres are smooth and comfortable but despite this it gets up to speed reasonably well. I for one would recommend the Tricross. Not one for the racers but for a reliable fun and comfortable road bike (IMHO) it takes some beating. 2011 has slightly higher spec. Good luck
  • I have the 2011 Tricross sport & have fitted Vittoria Rubino Pro 3 folding tyres 700 x 25 and it has made a world of difference to the road ride. Haven't noticed and difference in comfort over the stock 32c tyres but it rolls a lot faster.

2011 spec is definitely better than 2012 spec. 2012 comes with disc brakes & sora gears & alloy forks or non disc brakes, tiagra gearing & carbon forks.

The brakes arent brilliant on the tricross - discs would be much better but you do loose out on spec.
  • I just remembered they are also doing the 2011 Tricross 24 (non sport model) for £549. This would be more within my budget and give me more to spend on equipment. Would i be sacrificing much in terms of spec?
  • Anybody got any advice? I can get the standard Tricross '11 for £500 now, is the Sport '11 worth the £200 more?
