Campag Powershift Levers - Front Mech

Hi,

After snapping a gear lever on my old Campag Xenon QS control levers I have bought a set of Campag Centaur Powershift ErgoPower Levers. I have fitted them but having a few problems setting up the front mech (also Campag Centaur). Normally I find the front mech adjustment an easily completed task.

The issue I am having is that, unlike the old QS changers (which seemed not to be indexed) the new front mech levers seems to be indexed for a triple chainring on the upshift. I still get the small incremental clicks moving up but after lever release I am able to move up again. I have a compact chainring. I have tried setting it up between the small and large chainring across index positions 1 and 2 and also between 2 and 3. However neither seems to give me the full range across all gears without getting some chain rub. The only way I seem to be able to get the full range is by performing a double change on the front, from index position 1 to 3... which is not ideal as it makes for a messy change.

Does anyone have any advice on the best way for setting up to eliminate rub?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

There will be 3 shift positions on the front lever. 1 for the big ring, 1 for the little ring and then a trim function.

Now I'm not sure how it works on Campag as I run Sram. But on Sram when in the big ring you push the lever a little bit and that moves the mech over a tiny but but doesn't drop the chain into the little. This allows you to run in the big ring and the big sprockets on the cassette without chainrub. When you press the lever again it shifts into the little ring.

You won't get the full range of gears without chainrub in either chainring. That's why there is the trim function to allow you to cross chain. Hopefully I have given you an idea but I've never run Campag so can't be more helpful. I'm sure if you search google you'll find a tech doc or something giving you more info.

Yup - front trim. On Campag it's three clicks to get from small to large (four positions). You can use the same levers for a triple and have more clicks.

However, with powershift, the trim positions are only available when using the lever behind the brake lever - the thumb button just dumps the chain back to the small ring stop (a triple setup will need two button presses). Ultrashift has the trim function in both directions as the thumb button is a lever).
