Some help with tyres if you have 5 mins

Hi all,
New to the site so apologies if a similar question has been answered, but i have a Specialized Crosstrail Comp 2012, am looking to add a road bike to my collection towards the end of the year but until then i Want To look at adding slicks to this one. I currently have 700c x 45 semi slicks which are ok, but want to go a bit faster. Can anyine advise me at all on A good Choice. Dont really want to spend more than 50-60 for the pair.

    any commuter tyre will be okay

    cheap - try some conti gatorskins in 28mm (not a fan myself though...)

    decent - conti GP4Seasons, again in 28mm

    also look a Scwalbe Lugano 28mm

    25mm will probably be okay but given the nature of the bike, 28s or 32s are probably more suited.

    As above I'd go 28 mm. Probably Scwalbe tyres, as I rate them. I had Lugano s (in 25mm I think), they were good. Spa cycles has good deals on Scwalbe tyres very often.

    Michelin make good tyres too although I'm not sure which ones come in 28mm.

    Planet-X have Schwalbe Marathon Racer tyres in 700x30 for £18 - not the fastest or lightest but probably the most bomb-proof for the money. When mine arrive, they be fitted to one of my CX bikes for road duties. Spa Cycles have Durano S in 700x25 for £15 if you want something a bit lighter. I've just binned some GP4 Seasons after 4 winters - they were good, but I bought them at £17 each and now they're £37 - I only pay that much for race tyres, particularly as you can cut a sidewall on the first ride.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    yeah the GP4s are expensive but you can get them for <£60 a pair if you're in the right place at the right time.

    Got Conti Tour Ride's on my crosser, think they are about £17 each.

    Not sure if you can call them fast but come spring time I'll be glad of all the miles I've done on them when summer stead makes an appearance.....

    Thank you for all the help and advice, appreciate it. Buying any item for your bike takes hours! But went with the marathon racers in the end, seemed well priced at 50% off and have consistently good reviews. Looking forward to hem arriving now so I can test them out.
