Gear slipping in top gear

Hoping someone will be able to help me out, first time on the forum!

My chain has recently started slipping when I'm in top gear (8) on the cassette, regardless of which chain ring gear I'm in. I don't have to apply much pedal pressure to get it to slip, and It doesn't happen at all in any other gear.

I've just replaced the chain (it was stretched and completely filthy) and given the entire drive train a good clean, although the problem persists. I'm thinking either the cassette is worn (I spend most of my time in 8) or the derailleur is mis-aligned??

I believe the cassette and derailleur are the Shimano Sora/ 2300 (I'm aware that it isn't known to be a particularly good cassette). If I were to replace the cassette, can anyone suggest a good one?

Many thanks guys!

Alex

If you've been riding all the time in the small sprocket, then it'll be worn and won't mesh with the new chain. Any 8 speed cassette will do - more money gets a shiney finish and more holes in the metal.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

You might be able to just get a replacement small sprocket.

    E.g. From SJS Cycles

If as you say the chain was badly worn then you're right to suspect you've also worn the cassette.

I'd just get the cheapest Shimano or SRAM 8 speed cassette with the same range as your current one.

Fitting a Wipperman/Connex connecting link the wrong way round can cause the chain to slip when on an 11t sprocket. The link rides up on the cassette lockring.
