Hey all, just a bit of advice/recommendations - I have a Sepcialized Allez 2012;
http://www.freeborn.co.uk/specialized-2012-allez
I would like to upgrade the wheels and would like to know what a nice set up would be? I mainly do local rides and are looking to go further distances than normal 20-30 mile.
Cheers.

  • Not now... Wait for spring.
    Planet x has few excellight rims on 105 hubs at reduced price. Buy them and use them from March

    I'm 150 Ib's (or 10 stone 10 Ib's) and I want a new set of training wheels for abusing all weathers.

    Will the Ambrosio Excursion rim be upto the job or am I better off forking out the extra for the Excellight?

    Also what's the quality of the wheel build like from Planet X?

    They will be perfect. Planet X brand is now the best selling wheel brand in the UK. They are pretty reliable and anyway, anyone can fix them should they need

    Looks like a good deal. Can't find anything similar in a campag fit though, can the freehub be converted?

    Thanks Ugo, gone ahead and ordered a pair of these.

    I may be in the market for some hand built wheels in the future maybe March - April time will be in touch. :D

    Want something classic looking like the H Plus Son TB14 rim but could be swayed by the Archetype in silver with silver spokes and some silver Ultegra hubs or even NovaTec F172/272. Dunno if I could stretch to something better like dura ace.

    Yep exactly like those! I like the idea of the reliability of Ultegra hubs, but can't shrug off the idea of 24/28 hole pattern which is a no no with Ultegra so may consider the NovaTec classic looking silver hub as comes in all sorts of combos. How much roughly would it cost for the Ultegra wheel set in the picture?

    Depends on components prices and wind direction... But you should be aiming at under 300
