christmas woes... I've discovered a crack in my frame, close to the BB, and therefore neither want to risk it, or a repair. So am looking for a replacement frame with a shortlist of :

Cervelo S5
Colnago C59 (the current favourite)
Bianchi Oltre

any experience of these, or other (non- US recommendations), especially if there are deals to be had

Scott Foil Premium. Headquartered in Switzerland and built in Taiwan, not as American as people think...

No warranty on your current frame? I know you don't want american but cannondale come with liftime frame warranty, and they're really canadian anyway.

    Or BMC, Focus, Cube, Canyon?

    you won't catch a C59 cracking .....
  • I'd go for an R5/R3 rather than an S5.

Just as a matter of interest, is the cracked frame a Zero 7, as in your name/avatar?

Maybe Pinarello Dogma?Or something from Orbea? There is a lot of products from Europe, also De rosa makes nice bikes.I have Bianchi Sempre and Trek Madone.Unfortunately, with Bianchi I had few problem with BB and frame, but Bianchi warranty service was terrible.I sent my Sempre in Semptember to factory and still today I don't have it.

My friends are driving Dogma2 and they have only the best words about. But for me Dogma sucks because last 3 models look the same, nothing new for 3 years except "new" types of carbon .

Cervelo S5 only if you will using it on plain terrain and time trial, but all-round bike is R3-R5.

Let's cut the crap. What you really need is a Storck.

Storck are such dull looking bikes, they make a cervelo look exciting! they may be technically sound, advanced even, but they are soulless

the previous owner ! it looks to me like the chain got thrown off and jammed between backstay and chainring - causing a shaving fro top to bottom. whats showing is a line where the shaving abruptly stops, more than a crack

  • I consider you a man of good taste ILM Zero7 so please don’t buy a DOGma ;-) The same goes for the Cento Uno SR (at least until they sort the graphics out).

If I was in your shoes my list would be in no particular order:

    De Rosa Protos

I have a cento, the last of the ones with the nice graphic, so won't rush to replace it, but I think it is coming down to. c59 or Oltre ..... It would have to be in celeste if it was the latter

    Serious Question time:
I am a keen road cyclist riding 7k miles a year for the past 4 yrs I have always been inclined towards the cheapskate end of the market and the most I have ever spent on a carbon roadbike is £1500 with an extra £300 wheelset on top.
Fact is, I hanker after a top of the range road frame and can easily afford one but am worried that I would be underwhelmed with the ride experience. Or would I be blown away?
    Should I get a Colnago C59?
    Answers on a postcard please.

sturmy do get a top frame, then keep your older 'hack' but I suspect you might not :)

  • Sturmy get a great frame its a marvelous ride but as ILM Said I dont think you will.

ILM go for the Oltre with the Vacasoliel graphics its the best looking bike out there at the moment i think

    Sturmey,

I have a bit of a thing going with C59s ( have both the mechanical and electric versions). Hand on heart from a performance perspective are they that much better than my Canyon SLX ? Probably not. If you are very cost conscious then I am not sure the C59 will give you that much of a wow factor over frames such as the Canyon at approx half the price. Having said that I really enjoy the c59s, the aesthetics are pleasing and they do ride very well and i will not be trading them in any time soon.

Some nice frames being mentioned here but personally (and obviously) depending on the OP's budget, I'd go for a handbuilt Legend, either the HT9.5 or the HT7.5

Although that metallic rosso on the 7.5 is a bit 'marmite'!
