Just recently got into cycling and so didn't look last year and so i don't know.. but do alot of the online retailers such as wiggle etc have decent sales after crimbo?

Comments

  • Sales are on all year round, the best ones are around July, when the current year bikes are flogged at discounted prices to make room for the newer ones in September.
For equipments and parts, it's really up to the retailer, but I wouldn't rush into buying as there are constantly items on sale

Sign up for the newsletter emails from PBK, Wiggle, Merlin, Planet X etc etc and they'll all be reducing different things all year round. I think I get 2 or 3 a week for PBK and Planet X in particular.

The cycling market generally has 2 sale periods per year - end of summer to clear in-year bikes for new model year and early new year to clear clothing and accessories - that's the way the big brands like Specialized operate. Obviously, individual retailers may have special deal to clear their own stock too. If you're looking for bargain 2012 bikes, don't expect many popular models and sizes to be left - you may be OK if you want a 62cm frame though!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Looking at reduced clothing really.. i was very close to buying alot of new gear but decided i'd wait until after xmas to see if any of its reduced - if not i'll just bite the bullet and pay full price, but didnt want to pay top whack to find a week later it was all 20% off

There should be some good deals around -> new bikes tend to come in September (perhaps to take advantage of Christmas?)

But a lot of new kit comes in the spring in anticipation of summer, so retailers try and shift the last of their older 2012 stuff.

The cycling industry likes to rip us off all year round. Not just before Christmas...:lol:

I have jusst bought a bike in last few weeks and been gathering gear for xmas presents for me etc and there are deals and dicount codes every week from all the top places. Normally they have a minimum spend, for example chainreaction has three offers curently of £5 off £49, £15 off £99 and £40 off £199. So if you need a few items try and see if you can get it all from one website. I do alot of shopping about and comparing prices but as one of the above said sign up to their newsletter then you dont miss the deals!

I have noticed alot of 2012 clothing is now being reduced massivly but it also means its being discontinued so once its gone, it tends to be gone for good.

It got best on test last year in a Cycle Plus review. Unfortunately I paid a touch more from Ribble a fortnight ago and thought that price couldn't be beaten, just goes to show  Great jacket....

I went with an International medium (uk small) and I'm a 38" chest and 33" waist (well probably 34" at this time of year.... ). Fit is tight(ish) but still with decent mobility. Although the material is quite rustley (!) the great fit means it doesn't flap in the wind so not noisy when on the bike. I tried various different jackets before settling on the HC H20, and this fitted me the best out of all of them (Sportful Survival, Gore Oxygen AS GT, and the 2013 Mavic HC H20). Lots of decent features and a steal at that price I reckon...

  • Well done for spotting the Mavic jacket bargain. It would do nicely as a shell over my airJack that I won in the Assos UK Outlet raffle. How long are the sleeves on the international M?
