I'm having problems changing from the small ring to the big ring on my Cinelli which has Campag Veloce. It eventually changes up but only after a lot of effort.
Anyone any idea's? Thanks

Almost certainly the limit adjusters on the front mech need tweaking. They're simply small screws that limit the travel of the front mech. But check to make sure that the shifters are working correctly and that the cable and inner wire are in good nick and the inner wire moves cleanly and easily.0

Most poor front shifting is due to bad install - check postion and alignment first - outer cage plate needs to clear big chainring by 1-3mm and set parallel to chainring.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Monty Dog is right. I assumed it had been working well and had degraded. If your kit is relatively new, make sure it is set up correctly.0

It does sound like bad set up to me as well. It could be when the shifter is fully shifted down the cable is very slack so alot of paddle action is needed to get it going. Or something else is set up wrong. Once it set up Veloce shifts very well.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Thanks for the replies.
The cabling is internally routed. Is this a job for the lbs or is it something I could try myself? Thanks.0 -
I had a similar problem with the Campagnolo Record set up on my Bianchi, the change action on the front mechanism was poor compared to my Shimano set up on my Specialised bike.
I took it to my lbs and he reset and tuned it for me, but it was still not as good as the Shimano set up. When i mentioned this to the owner of the lbs he suggested that on the Campagnolo when changing rings on the front, keep pedalling but 'ease' off a little, ie. release some of the tension in the chain and rings.
I have adapted my riding stance to his suggestion and found that the front change has improved dramatically.
I now click the lever over to make the change ease off the pedals say for half a revolution and the change then happens. If I keep pushing hard on the pedals the change doesn't happen.
This is hard to describe in words but it is as if you have to coax the front Campagnolo mechanism to make the change.
My lbs has a vast amount of experince with Campagnolo and I think what he has told me is correct and not a load of b******t as the rear mechanism changes beatifully and he set that up as well, so he knows his stuff0 -

Its amazing how we (well me) put up with something, without actually doing something about it.
My 2012 Veloce front is slow to shift, i have to grab two handfulls of paddle to get it to shift up (if you know what i mean, it takes a lot of paddle action as you say).
You are right, i did noticed my cable is some time ago, but never got round to setting it up properly.
Job for this weekend0 -
You don't need campag experience to set up campag. If you can set up a shimano drivetrain you can setup a campag one. It is standard practice to ease of the pedals a bit when changing rings on anyone drivetrain. It a bit like rev matching in a car when chaing gear to get it super smooth (old cars need this more than new ones).
When you change gear in a car you certainly don't jam on the load pedal do you?http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
Apologies, but still a bit lost of where to start.
Has anyone got an idiots guide to sorting this or is the lbs the best option?
Thanks0 -
Undo the cable anchor bolt. Put shifter in botto gear. Put rear gear in big sprocket. Ensure mech is straight and there is about 2mm gap between outer cage and large chainring. Adjust inner stop screw so the chain just clears inner cage.
Anchor the cable (make sure it taught). Shift the paddle and djust outer limit screw so the chain shifts on the big ring without comming off. This works on anyone chainsets and shifter by the way.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0
