What type of insurance covers the bike from theft, insurance for bike/ clothes/ yourself when on road and what's a good low cost security lock at home and work etc.?

In my case it is my household contents insurance. There is a £2.5k limit for bikes but mine is very comfortably below that. I am covered for theft or accidental damage at home and away from home as I am with cameras, laptops etc.
For some reason I used to have to list bicycles separately in my declaration but I no longer have to as long as they are below £2.5k.
Sadly, there doesn't appear to be such a thing as a good low cost lock. There doesn't even seem to be such a thing as a good high cost lock. Stories abound of people with expensive locks having their bikes nicked. I know it's not practical for many people (eg if you commute by bike) but I just don't leave my bike where it might get stolen.0 -
as above, look for a contents insurance policy that gives the right cover
the best place for locks advice is the first post in this thread (they update the first post with new/changed info)...

even the best locks can be cut/broken if the thief has the tools and opportunity, and if they can't take the bike they may steal componentsmy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Thanks
Home insurance is through Axa and covers only for £1k limit
I'm looking at sold secure gold locks and prefer chain for flexibility, but know the downsides and know it means with the right tools it still can be broken into within seconds, but places of locking will be offsite secure work place. A lock will be better than nothing or cheaper ones surely?
So weighing up weight, security etc.
Anyone tried

At home I us a heavy duty Oxford sold secure chain and this lock, which I got from a DIY store;

Can you leave a heavy duty chain and lock at your work site?Share The Road Event http://www.sharetheroadride.co.uk

I could leave it at work but reading on advice you shouldn't leave a bike lock on a post as thieves can practice on them etc
I have lockers at work but would mean popping in work with bike leaving at reception and then to locker etc.
I would like a lock which could be used for odd occasions on a commute somewhere in a back pack just in case, need to nip in to say newsagent etc.Wanted: Cube Streamer/Agree GTC Compact / Pro/ Race : 53cm0
