Shifter not going back to original position
So I recently bought a pair of 6700 shifters off a guy who I quote said they were in "perfect working order". They had no cosmetic wear so it seemed the guy had no crashes and looked after them.
LBS fitted shifters today, however the rear shifter is a bit sloppy. When you shift down to a smaller cog, it's fine. However, when you shift upwards, the lever doesn't flick back to it's original position and requires assistance.
LBS also changed all gear cables. They say it's down to the shifter. After having sprayed some TF2, it seemed to be a bit better, but is still not working properly.
Any help would be appreciated!

I had tried the shifters without them attached at home before I took them to the LBS, they seemed okay. The cable housing wasn't changed, was it really necessary for the LBS to change all the cables including brakes...it was only 7months old including housing and was functioning well. The routing of the cable under the bars looks okay.
First time I've used this LBS, I have to say I'm not pleased...the crank arm wasn't tightened properly and came loose when I was out riding. I went back and got it sorted. When I asked about the shifter, the guy blamed the "ratchet" in the shifter. He said it was almost worn out and that nothing could be done about it unless the shifter is replaced.0 -
Does sound like the lbs did not do a good job on the cables, unlikely that the shifters are worn out. I would take it back and ask them to try the shifters without cables attached0

I'm just going to suggest two things -
1) the ratchet worn out in 7 months seems very unlikely indeed (unless the guy you bought from was called Brad he hasn't done the mileage),
2) surely the lever return is the spring, not the ratchet anyway...0 -

Woohhhh there - I'm sorry but you can not come on here and use logic an common sense, where do you think you are....this is a web forum don't you knowYellow is the new Black.0 -
The most straightforward way to eliminate cables from a shifting problem is to release the rear derailleur cable clamp, put the shifter into the bottom gear position (biggest rear sprocket), then pull on the cable with your hand as you upshift through to top gear. You'll then know if the shifter is releasing the cable as it should.- - - - - - - - - -

I had the same thing although it was shifting up that was the problem, the lever didn't return. I sprayed tons of GT85 at it and worked fine after that. Good luck.0

I have had some poor shifting before which turned out to be due to the little plastic 'ferrules' that protect and stiffen the ends of the cable outers. I replaced some jagwire inners with shimano ones which were thicker. This meant that there was some resistance at the small opening in the jagwires ferrules, rather than free movement, which resulted in 'sluggish' shifting at the rear mech.0
