Quiet trousers

Not having spent a winter in the UK for some years I'm feeling decidedly chilly right now. Woolie Boolies and Specialized Defrosters have solved my cold feet problem now I need to do something about my legs. I've got a number of pairs of 3/4 and long bib tights but in winter being retired more often than not I'm pottering rather than training often spending most of the day wandering the lanes with frequent coffee stops and I don't necessarily want the full on Lycra look.
So I'm looking for some cycling trousers. Waterproofing isn't a priority but windproof definitely is but above all pants that don't rustle continuously would be very much appreciated. Any and all suggestions gratefully received

Google for "softshell cycling trousers" - should be along the lines of what you are after.'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0

I've found Ron Hill Bikesters to be excellent - keep the wind chill to a minimum with less of the MAMIL look to them:-

When the temperature really drops, consider donning some thermal long johns under the Ron Hill's;-

thanks for that yes softshell is going to be the answer I think the MAMIL look is (just about) acceptable when I'm on my Bianchi but sooooo wrong on my Pashley Guvnor which is fast becoming my winter bike despite having several others to chose from0

Tweed plus fours? I find that Rohan polycotton bags or similar are good.0

Tweed Plus Fours ohhh please don't tempt me Actually being a bit of a Rapha Wh*re I've got a pair of their 3/4 shorts which over the top of a pair of bib tights might just be the answer so thanks for that.0

Those are illegal. Or at least they should be.More problems but still living....0 -
illegal hmmmm well you could have a point I did buy them in a moment of weakness/madness (and in a Rapha sale) To be honest as a touring short with a pair of padded briefs underneath I've done 100 mile plus days with no discomfort0
