I resently got a new bike with size 700x23 tyres. as much as i like them going up hill and on the flat due to the speed i can get i seam to struggle going down hill. Basicly i dont feel very stable on them. On the club run this weekend one of the old heads told me it could be due to me being 6'6ft tall and 15 stone is this to much for the size of tyre i have at the moment. would moving up to 700x25 help me feel more stable going down hill or is it a case of manning up.

Thank you
simon

  • Man up bro.

I am 6'3ft and 16 stone, I have used 700x23 and 700x25 and i could not feel any difference.
It sounds like you just need to gain confidence on the bike.
    Hope this helps.

Go for the fattest tyres your bike will take so 25mm or even 28mm if they fit - the bigger air pocket reduces the chance of impact punctures whilst improving handling, comfort, grip and lowering rolling resistance - it's a weird paradox but for the same pressure and construction, fatter tyres are faster than skinny ones
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Wow. I had no idea tyre width was inversely proportional to masculinity.

Tyres are the cheapest and most effective way to improve the ride of your bike, I would definitely consider at least 25s and something good quality so you can run it at the right pressure for your weight

  • being just shy of 6ft and 18 stone i run either 22mm or 24 mm conti grand prix tyres and i cant honestly tell the difference in them both inflated to 120 psi

you just need to buy tyres you have confidence in and trust them i think
