Thinly padded cheap (under) shorts?

I just bought a pair of DHB Vaeon Zero bibtights. I really wanted a winter bibtight without pad (like DHB used to do) but got the padded Zeros because they were amazingly cheap (under £45 with all the discounts) and I like the quality and fit of DHB.
So, to protect my jewels from the icy weather I wear shorts under them but the double-pad is a bit like wearing a nappy.
I was wondering about getting some really cheap (Halfords/Decathlon/Tenn?) shorts (not necessarily bib, mainly for commuting) to go under them, and wondered if anyone else does the same (ie padded shorts under padded biblongs) and what brands you prefer? I'm dubious about the shorts advertised as "under shorts" because I want the thigh coverage of proper shorts for subzero days.
Cheers.

That is exactly what I did yesterday - padded undershorts with padded bib tights over the top.
The undershorts were not very padded (cheapo sports direct efforts) so it worked fine, it didn't even look that much like I had soiled myself.
Not sure it would work with shorts with a decent pad, but thankfully this is not problem £9 shorts from Sports Direct have so I did my hilly 35 mile ride yesterday in warmth and comfortstrava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

you could possibly try some cheap triathlon shorts from somewhere like More Mile http://www.moremile.co.uk/product.asp?P ... ry=related as the pads on these tend to be quite thin...0

Rapha Merino shorts? Or any merino boxers? Won't be cheap, but will feel lovely. If anywhere deserves a treat - its your nether regions!http://www.georgesfoundation.org
