Replacement gear cable

Pretty straight forward, assuming that the outer cable was cut cleanly. Use a new cable with an uncut end so that it doesn't fray. Shift onto smallest sprocket / chainring before taking the old cable out.0

It is certainly possible to replace the inner without removing the tape.
The tricky bit will be the interface between the sti housing and the start of the cable outer, if you can negoiate that then its a breeze from there.
Obviously tape off for outers.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Nice to know.
I've removed the hood and had a look but can't even see the gear cable end. Do I have to remove any of the plastic casing to access it?
Never had to do this job before.
Thanks
Update:
Now sorted. I undone the 3 tiny screws and removed the side plate on the shifter. Pulled the knackered cable out carefully and inserted the replacement cable after a bit of jiggery pokery. The replacement cable is 1.2mm so will work with SRAM ok. It was difficult threading it through the shifter entrance point and then round the casing as it kept catching but a little amount of force pushed ith through to the first ferrule ok. By this time I'd unwound the bar tape but only so muc as to access the outer cable. Tape went back on ok as I undid it carefully. Phew.0
