  • Have you tried any padded cycling shorts yet?

It's a cheper alternative to changing your saddle. I got these recently: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BNWT-Mens-bla ... 1148740551

they are really nice and protect the right areas if ya know what I mean ;)

I think with saddles its personal prefrence but here are 2 I've owned and love them both

i have good bib shorts (SMS/adidas/endura) etc but im after more long distance comfort if possible

i think the sides of my current saddle are too rigid and are fighting against me when im pedalling down.

Charge Spoon is a cheap saddle that a lot of people get on with.

It's not the saddle, it's the position... You put too much weight on your behind... the way to correct it is to lower the stem/get a longer stem (can you flip it?) and/or rising the seat post.
Most riders i see on the road have a poor riding posture and modern sloping frames/stem are to blame as they allow you to keep the bars very high.
If you post a photo of your bike, we can have a better idea

Had a bike fit and am quite happy with the fit to be honest. I don't want to raise the saddle any further as my right leg (longer leg) is already extended alot in my current set up. Any higher I would have issues with my hamstrings or IT band I'm sure.

The stem is 120mm already and is dropped to 5mm higher than bottom setting. Realistically I couldn't go any lower or longer.

I agree its a possibility I'm putting too much weight on my backside though but altering seat angle doesn't seem to help.

I feel like my inner leg/backside is fighting against the seat shell a bit. More flex could possible help.

I've bought a fizik arione cx carbon WC edition to try. £95 from wiggle with a discount code.

As it was discounted so much If it doesn't suit I will sell it on.

  • Unfortunately all we can do is tell you which saddles work for us, not what will work for you. There are quite a few bike shops that have test saddles which you can trial for a couple of weeks. Also buying second hand from eBay and selling on what doesn't work for you is a good way to try saddles fairly cheaply.

Good luck, it can take a while :-)

I'd suggest trying out Spesh Toupe or Romin if you can borrow one at a time from your lbs. They don't feel comfortable at first but I've found them good over long distances.

As others have noted, what works for me may well not be your answer - saddles/ backsides are one of the greater mysteries of cycling!

... or not, as the case may be
  • I've watched a few auctions on e bay for saddles & the prices are high , within £ 5-10 of the new price, when you add in p/p, forget it

im gonna run with the fizik arione CX world champ edition i bough for now and see how it goes.

i should hopefully get it in the post tomorrow!

got it for £94 from wiggle in the sale which is cheap for the carbon rails version

if its no good i will sell it on an probably get close to what i paid for it anyway.

    thanks for the advice people

Yes, position is important but he must not forget to maintain a balance, otherwise the OP will come back complaining of pain in the hands / wrist area. The body weight must be distributed between saddle, pedals and handlebars.

This is all very well, but that will mean a more bent up neck when looking forward.

This is the problem I have at the moment - arse happy, arms happy, lower neck sore. So shortly I'll be flipping the stem up so that the bars are slightly higher.
    Is the gorilla tired yet?

well my new saddle came today.

all seemed well until i realised my Focus seat post clamp wouldnt fit the carbon oval rails on the new seat.

after trying a few different adapters non of which worked i had to get a new seat post to be sure it would fit right

got a good deal on a carbon seat post so at least added a little bling.

the weight of my original seat was 300g vs 180g for the Fizik

and the focus seat post was 300g vs 220g carbon one

so a decent 200g weight saving altogether. i will test the new saddle out tomorrow

just had a cheecky hour on the turbo and first impressions are good.

there is certainly more room and flex in the inner thigh.

i had it set to how i had my previous saddle set but i have actually now pushed it back 5mm further and seems better again

not sure what all day comfort will be like but first impressions its an improvement
