Stand to hold bike when washing

Can anyone give some advice or recommendations on a cheap stand to hold my bike when I get back from a ride and wash it. I don't want to lean it against the wall for fear of scratching and am looking for something that is very portable or I can leave outside. I have a work stand, but it's too much of a faff to use this.

Thanks.

If you just want to steady the bike in an upright position while you wash it then this:-

    would probably fit the bill.

However if you want to be able to get at the awkward areas under the down tube/ bottom bracket without too much scrabbling around then the workstand is probably the best option allowing you to rotate the frame into the best position for cleaning.

  • I just bought one of these from Amazon. Great, rock solid stand for under £40 delivered.

One point to note with the Amazon pictures: they don't show the stand setup as per the instructions. The sliding clamp for the quad-leg stand is supposed to go all the way down until it stops, so you have very splayed out stand legs for maximum stability. Worth considering if you're planning on working in a broom closet.

Cheapest thing I can find is the floor or a wall, why will you scratch it?

I have a stand but don't use it for cleaning as the ability to move the bike about to get to all knooks and crannies is better.
  • Before I got my workstand I used to put a couple of bits of cloth down on the gournd or our garden table - to protect the hoods and saddle - and just put the bike down on them upside down.

I use a Minoura Display Stand for pretty much all work on the bike, including washing.

PRO make a neat stand that bike shops use to display their bikes. Thats what I use.

These are good as you can also tweak gears etc as it allows you to spin up the rear wheel (as well as use it when washing of course).

Having just cleaned my bike for the first time on the stand, I'm inclined to agree. At least for the more rigorous aspects of the cleaning/getting the worst off.

The stand is useful for drivetrain cleaning and other maintenance activity, though.
