Any experience with these 2 shoes? Both are similar except the material of the sole. Does glass fiber composite (not carbon sole) make significant difference to performance? It seems that Shimano 106 is actually heavier so its benefit has to come from increased stiffness. Is the improved stiffness worth the extra price and increased weight, or anything I missed out? Thanks.

  • I have the 87's and IMHO the sole is plenty stiff enough and they are nice and light. In terms of VFM and comfort they are great.

I Have the R106s and love them; very stiff; 2 velcro and a clicking strap. Easy in, easy out. Comfortable, and allows great breathability in hotter weather.

I haven't used more than this pair, as it's my first, but I love them, and I have no foot discomfort during my 2+ hours of riding.

Getting out of the saddle is quick, easy, and I feel like I have a lot of stability with the 105 paired pedals.

They look great too; I haven't ever ridden int he rain with them, so can't comment on feel when wet.
