Fulcrum 5 vs Fulcrum Quattro vs Easton wheels.

Looking to get some new wheels for when the weather brightens up again. Stuck between Fulcrum and Easton wheels. The 5's look decent, but so do the new Quattro's and Quattro CX (the CX have an extra seal over the bearings). I've done some research, but am becoming overwhelmed with all the reviews, some for, some against these brands. My budget is around £250-300.

Does anyone have any personal experience with any of these wheels, good or bad, who can point me in the right direction.

Currently running OEM Easton Aero's on my Ghost bike at the mo and, although bottom of the pile, have had no problems with them running out of true or spokes breaking etc.

TIA
Ghost Race 5000 (2011) Shimano 105 Black
Carrera TDF (2007)

Haven't ridden any of these wheels but I have just noticed JE James are advertising the Racing 5's on Bikeradar link for £159.99.

Fulcrum over Easton purely based on reliability
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Seen this also, but I have a problem with JE James.
They seem to list every bike part under the sun, then put a little red circle O next to it and put this dislamer in, *Please Note: This is a special order item from our supplier and availability is not always guaranteed. Delivery can be 5 to 14 days.

Has anyone waited the 14 days and had any joy ??

They are also 2012 model wheels so I fear supply is unlikely.
  • It's a tactic all the major online players use to get you in the door, it improves their position in the Google rankings.
Most people when seeing It's not available will then go on to see what else they have, because they are super cheap right?

Have you not got a local bike shop?

The chances of getting those wheels from je?
The distributors have no 2012 models left, put it that way!

never bought a thing from them because of this. have come to assume that NOTHING on their website is in stock, as this is generally the case.

tell a lie, I DID buy a 6 speed freewheel from them a few years back- thought I would take a gamble @ £6.99

He has just built me a lovely pair of wheels - novatec hubs / dt spokes 24/28 / velocity rims - a hair over 1500 grams and will knock spots off any of the options you mention for the same price.

  • Sorry Paolo, didn't wish to appear rude  !

I've only had them out the once before the best bike went away for the winter, but I was very happy :D .

I'll send you a better report in the spring..
