Easiest shifters - damaged right hand

After being knocked off three times in last six yrs I have a damaged thumb that hurts when changing gear
Will be looking at new bike in next few weeks I have heard SRAM are easier/ lighter on the fingers / thumb any thoughts please?
Ideally would be great if I could control rear cog via left shifter:- been told not possible with Campgo again any thoughts?

The shifting is all done from the finger on the SRAM isn't it? Don't think they have the thumb buttons like campag so this may be the one to go for0
