Selling high end wheels - how easy?

How easy is it to sell high end tubular wheels? Quite fancy a Supersix Evo high mod but they now come with ludicrously posh Vision TC24 wheels that are far too good for me.

Retail for the wheels is £1,500, Wiggle have for £1,350 and PlanetX seem to have one pair in for £1,000.

On a really quick look the tyres seem to be around £100 for the pair.

The market for these must be so much smaller than for a set of more everyday wheels like Mavic £400 clinchers etc. Is it possible to sell them and how much of a discount would work from shop prices?

The only set I can see on ebay was in the US so not much of a guide.

  • Ugo: Sorry - couldn't find a "Road Selling Advice" section!!

You're a wheels man so to speak. Are these any good and would people be clamouring for them at say 80% of lowest retail price?

Those wheels are in fact ludicrously overpriced at retail.
They aren't even that light for 24mm carbon tubs.
I think you'd struggle to get half retail unless you got lucky on eBay.

  • If you are trying to make a quick buck out of reselling wheels bought under price, wake up to the real world... Once you resell them, the warranty is no longer valid and your wheels are worth half the rrp at best.

  • Not trying to make a quick buck or scam anyone, just wouldn't want these if I went for the Cannondale. Just shooting the breeze really as this is all theoretical.

If they were incredible and loads of people were just about to buy for £1k from PlanetX and they'd sell without a warranty for £800 then that would be great. If the'd go for a lot less then maybe it doesn't make sense to buy a bike with bits you don't want.

Maybe you can negotiate with the dealer a better price with different wheels? Some online retailers are more flexible than others

Yes the Evo Race comes with this as standard. When I bought my dale from Westbrook they were very accommodating about a wheel change.
