Looking for a set of Shimano compatable wheels that have "proper" bearings, not cone type bearings, to go on the Cannondale Synapse, up to about £250 max.

Any recommendations?

  • There are so many to choose from and some you can draw yourself on the board and can be built. Any wheel that is NOT made by Shimano but shimano compatible will have sealed bearings... some are good, some are mediocre some are utter rubbish

  • Why "non cone"? Cup and cone bearings are excellent for bike wheels... in fact I can't think of a single downside other than slightly fiddly strip down and rebuilds... but only slightly!

I'm the opposite. I don't like the idea of disposable cartridge bearings you can't adjust / clean / fine tune. I'm happy with my Shimano wheels with cones and ball bearings I can fiddle with.

Mavics and Fulcrums use cartridge bearings I understand. Presumably they are available in Shimano flavour?
