My Garmin Edge 705 has finally given up the ghost (the power switch is broken, common £100 to repair!!) so I'm considering buying an 800.

Does anyone know if the micro SD card for City Navigator (Europe) I have for the 705 unit will fit in an 800? Or will I have to buy another version?

Thanks

  • When I bought my Edge 800 it came with the Europe card as a free promotion- why not look around and see if you can get the same?

Compatible, but I'm fairly sure it won't work. If you bought your 705 with Garmin's City Navigator on SD Card, it will be locked to your 705. When you insert it into your 800, it will refuse to open the map.

Another saying yes as I did the same myself when Garmin upgraded my 705 to an 800 FOC :D I also DLd the free maps from talkytoaster too.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I don't think people are understanding the OP's question properly. Garmin map products are locked to one unit when supplied on SD card.
  • I don't have another unit to test it on, but I don't think you are correct, dodgy. The maps are locked to the SD card, not the unit, so you can't make a working copy, but you can move the card between compatible units.

Aha, you know I think you're right!

    Sorry for confusion :?
  • Is there any way to clone the SD card?
I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks

You'd have to figure out a way to change the serial number of the new SD card. Since doing that your'e technically breaking copyright on the software you're trying to re-use, you may as well just download it illegally from the web.

Not that I'm condoning that, I'm not, I'm just saying that if you're going to break copyright, why go the hard way.

Besides, I think the City Navigator is available reasonably now, cheaper than it used to be anyway - from legit resellers.
