Time has come to upgrade my unbranded hubs and mavic rims as supplied with my CX winter/commuter/tourer..
Any problems with Shimano R501's? at £90 a pair don't think I can go wrong, or can I?
Alternative suggestions welcome

Fiver extra gets Shimano RS10s from Ribble, they're 150g lighter and every little helps :-)

No particular issues with those already mentioned but I would not be certain they represent any upgrade to what you currently have.
Any wheelset under £200 is unlikely to be a major improvement and you could argue that you need to spend considerably more than that.
What do you want/expect from the upgrade?Yellow is the new Black.0 -
RS 20s and 10s are great and, amazingly, quite indestructable wheelsets for the cash, depite the low spoke count.
I had some 501 and the spokes went loose often and in the rear they broke often, but because spares were easy to find I just replaced them without bother. They made me good a truing wheels :-)When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
The wheels on my current bike are Mavic CXP22 rims on unbranded hubs which don't have a seal on them so I resorted to packing them with tractor grease last year and while this has lasted longer than bike grease I feel the time to change to something more weatherproof. The RS10's are now the standard issue IIRC on the Kinesis CL5t that I have.
not really needing race wheels or owt, this is my winter/commuter, got a decetn set of American Classics on the proper bike.
Thanks for the advice guys the RS10's are on the way.0 -
FWIW my RS10's are entering their 5th winter. Never so much as taken a spoke key to them, despite some hefty pothole incidents. Did strip the hubs once (more out of curiosity) but found them shiny and smooth with plenty of grease so just added a bit more and reassembled them. I reckon the seals are pretty effective.0
