I've put the rear mudgaurd on fine, went on simples.
The front one... I can't seem to get the right angle, I was there nearly 2hrs getting the right angle is there a correct way of doing the front one? These are the clip on ones.

  • you just have to bend the bars to change the effective angle. no magic formula just trial and error unfortunately.
  • Have you over tightened the cable ties GSJ ?
It's important to tighten them last thing and not too tightly.

I haven't attached the guard at all yet, I'm still try to get the shape. Am I missing something? :o

I've given up with putting the front mudgaurd on, it literally won't fit into position. If I get it into the correct position on the forks the rear end of the mudguard is scraping on the tyre, if I move it slightly up the fork positioning goes!!
  • Bump,

Did you come up with a way to fix this? I was trying to fit some last night, got the rear on ok but cant get the front to fit with enough tyre clearance and with the the rubber bumps on top not hitting the down tube. Could it be that I have 25c tyres on a Dolan Mythos which says it should have 23c tyres? They fit with enough clearance for general riding...

The mudguard can move up and down in the fitting, it might be stiff but it does move. This might solve the OP's problem but I'm not sure about 25mm tyres.

I gave up on SKS mudguards. Like you 2 hours and within 1 mile wobbled themselves loose and rubbing on the tyre.
    Say... That's a nice bike..

They need zip ties as well to hold them steady. Stuff a little bit of old inner tube under the ties to stop them rubbing paintwork.

I can see why people give up though

Confused a bit.. I did use the SKS short blades a year or so ago... the ones that clipped with rubber tabs to the downstays/forks.. they never really budged but too short really to be of any use.
I then did some creative diy to make them longer using Cruds that were imo even worse for flapping about and making catching sounds.
The new revised SKS long blades however are spot on and well worth the xtra.. the QR clips ensure a great fit.
I have still used pieces of my older blades to make the rear guard longer to cover right past the front mech... The little 4inch extension piece is insufficient.. and yes.. it also fell off down a lane because I didnt check it was fully seated into the clip. I heard it go but didnt realised what it was until laters.

Used supplied rubber bands. I guess if you have round tubes would help if they're shaped in anyway.

Once you start faffing around with zip ties you may as well have fixed guards.
