I just bought the SLR wheelset and road my first 50 miles today. The brakes were incredibly loud. (Embarrasing). Not the humming noise but a loud screeching.

I spoke to my bike shop and they said the noise will diminish after 500-800 miles. They said the brake pads are "toed" correctly, but I am not sure I want to "break in" my rims for 500 miles. If the sound does not go away I will return them and buy the cheaper SLS's.

HAs anyone had this experience? and does it get better.

The sound will go away,i have the cosmic carbone slr and they were as noisey as hell,it got to a stage i did not want to brake as it was embarrassing with such a noise coming from the wheels.
Once you break them in the braking is awsome.

Yes I'm after a set as well for my new summer bike. I read there v loud for about the first 800/1000 miles depending on how much braking you do. I also read some people toe in and some don't. Maybe try the blocks opposite to what you have them now and see if it improves?

Also if you don't want them and they are brand new, ie no marks then let me know if you want to sell them.

    Thanks

  • basically what everyeone else has said, except for the mileage. mine became quiet after about 300 miles using them. Are you also using the exalith brake pads? If not, you need to pick up a set asap.

Same as. Only if I really yank hard on the brakes which is extremely rare.
  • My cosmic slr's took only afew rides to bed in I would not worry it will be gone before you know it. Braking Is great then
