I've got a pair of Rubino pro's on my road bike and they've done a fantasic job so far. reasonably low rolling resistance and very good puncture resistant. I've been looking at Grand Prix 4000s for my singlespeed bike, and not sure which to go for, safe option of Rubino pro because I've got them already or spend a little extra for the 4000s which also have fantastic reviews.
Does anyone have a pair of 4000s that they can vouch for?

Rubino Pros are much cheaper. GP4000S are an excellent all round race tyre, the weak point IME is the sidewalls.

    What's wrong with the sidewalls?

ridden both, just dont trust the Rubino Pro's in the damp, and the GP 4000's are pretty bulletproof in comparison.. as for the sidewall comment ???? What? !!

if you have sidewall concerns, i trust you havent tried Pro Race 3's - a fantastic quick tyre, but oh so prone to side wall nicks

Rubino Pros are much better when it comes to wear and IMO don't feel slower than GP4000's but they are VERY slippery in the wet I find, if it starts to rain I go super slow round corners, the thing might spontaneously decide to slip from under me!

Well after a quick search on the interwebs, this sidewall problem seems to be quite common. Not sure if it's after prolonged use or instant. May just stick with Rubino pro's as i've had no problems with them so far.

I'm not sure what this sidewall problem is - I've been using GP4000s for the last 4 years or so across a number of bikes, used for everything including commuting and not has a single sidewall issue.

Best all-rounder tyre out there in my opinion.

Glad its not just me! Rubinos dreadful for grip in the wet. Never run 4000S, used to ride 4000's and they did have a couple of sidewall blowouts (once on a brand new tyre) which put me off a bit given the price. Running Rubinos on winter bike (for time being) and Ultremo ZX on best bike (looking pretty close to dead after a couple of thousand miles).

They look like the threads are very close to the surface, not well protected compared to some even lighter tyres e.g. Veloflex. Maybe this is where they save weight. Otherwise good puncture protection for a light tyre though.
