...out this morning in my new Endura Thermolite pro padded bibs...toasty, despite the chill factor. I'd previously worn a pair of running tights over my bib-shorts, I found the bib tights much, much more comfy and very much warmer - seems when your legs are warm, the rest of you is warmer too - I had to unzip my sleeves to lose some heat!0

I prefer the padded bib tights - would rather not have two sets of bibs to launder and two sets of straps. Single pair of padded bibs makes it much simpler for me!
I can understand that on really cold days there may be an advantage to having an additional layer over your thighs and bum, but really if it's that cold you might want to give the bike a miss for fear of frost.
I have found the Assos bib tights to be superb - my favourites were the older ones with the orange padding. The current ones are probably better technically but I find them very tight fitting and go for a size up over the shorts.

I made the swap to padded I wish I'd done it sooner, you don't feel so restricted with the loss of a layer.
I've got some Northwave blade bib tights and they're faultless, a major step up from a set of DHB ones but the DHB tights are fair for the price.0 -
Are the Northwave blades warm?Where'd you get them and what price did you get them for?Looking for another pair to go with my Giordana silverlines for the winter.0

They're warm with the roubaix lining and they're well made, the pad isn't the biggest but it's well shaped and comfortable. I wore them yesterday, i couldn't feel the cold or wind and they weren't overly warm as well.
Got them from Wiggle because i wasn't sure about size and i ended up with a fair discount(20%) due to the order size, they were roughly £70. Size wise for me - 5'10"ish, 11 12lb, med fit.0 -
My preference is for padded waist shorts under unpadded bib-tights in winter.
I don't like the feel of 2 sets of shoulder straps but I do like a double layer round my nether regions. It also means the more expensive bib-tights don't get washed every ride (every 2 or 3 works fine) so last longer. Works for me anyway0 -
Went to padded bib tights years ago - lycra has rubbish thermal properties and tends to go clammy and cold. Castelli Sorpassos are sublime for fit and comfort.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I use padded bib tights, have been using Funkier brand which seem quite good @ around £50, although the size is quite small and I had to move up to XL to get them to fit around my chest. I do find my bits can get cold, so wrap my vest around them for an extra layer!WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

This sums it up.
Also if you crash at high speed, two layers of fabric will slide against eachother, meaning less skin loss. See http://smaryka.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/w ... layer.html for explanationCAPTAIN BUCKFAST'S CYCLING TIPS - GUARANTEED TO WORK! 1 OUT OF 10 RACING CYCLISTS AGREE!0
