Hi All,

I recently purchased a new set of RS80's and the cones feel a tad tight from the factory. Can anyone advise me of what size wrenches I'll need for both front and rear wheels?
Also, will I need to get two wrenches of the same size?

Many Thanks

  • The hubs are Ultegra 6700 if anyone has them.
  • Try shimano tech docs or googling rs80 diagram. Should get you an exploded view of the hub with a parts list.

  • Hi mate, I have had a look there already and it does show the parts list but unfortunately, no mention of the sizes of cones and locking nuts.

I have a set of cone spanners you can have a borrow of to adjust your hubs, I believe they will fit into a set of standard sizes either 13 ,14, 15, 16. The spanners I have cover these sizes.
  • Thanks very much for the offer mate, very decent of you however, I've ordered a set prior to seeing your message.

    Cheers though,

Not RS80's, but my Shimano WH-R550 wheels are 17mm

I found out when none of my 13-14-15-16 cone spanner set fitted...
  • Thanks for the info mate. If my wrench set ever arrives from Evans, I shall post the required sizes for anyone needing them later down the line.
  • For anyone needing this info, the front hub requires TWO 17mm wrenches (1 for cone and 1 for lock nut)
The rear hub requires TWO 15mm wrenches (1 for cone and 1 for lock nut)
