Problem when changing down gears ?

I have a problem dropping down the gears at the mo. I often have to flick the lever two or three times before the gear engages. Do any of you clever fellows know the solution ?

    If you mean going from a larger to smaller sprocket on the rear is lagging then I would suggest it is a cable issue. Either dirt or a kink stopping the cable from releasing properly would be my first thought.

    I'm not talking about changing sprockets. The problem occurs when only I use the small lever on the right hand side to drop down gears.

    I am not talking about physically changing the sprockets, I am talking about the chain moving from a big to a smaller sprocket at the rear of the bike. Which from your reply seems to be what you are talking about?
