god dam it, knew i would do this. I was swapping out my cassette tonight and when i put the new one on and started to tighten up the lock ring ive managed to damage the freehub thread (its completely fecked). Its a DT swiss hub with an ultegra cassette (cassette is still fine). Is it easy enough to just replace the freehub body? Is there a specific one that i need or will any freehub that says its for DT swiss / Shimano do the job? Dam it dam it dam it.
Please help as i hate taking my stupidity into a shop to be laughed at.

you will need the correct one for the hub.

    what hub?

as you sure it is not savable?

  • definately not savable, half of the thread is lying on the garage floor

A good shop will not laugh at your expense much. I wonder if a campag steel lock ring could cut enough of a thread to hold the cassette? You will need to know the hub model though for a new freehub body. Free hubs for handbuilt wheels are through Madison. Spares for DT factory wheels are through Hotlines.

I sourced a freehub body + pawls/springs + needle bearing from Pace cycles.

Madison only list a ceramic freehub body for one hub and Hotlines didn't have any spares apparently.
