Decided If I'm going to keep the mileage up during the winter I need some mudguards..
Should I go for full guards? probably these: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/gear/product/giant.speedshield.700.race/592/44542/#overview
Or something like these: http://www.topeak.com/products/Fenders/DeFenderR1_R2_Set which I can take on and off easier should the weather permit?

Waste of time. Do nothing but save you a wet backside. They won't protect anyone behind you or the bike itself. A lot pricier than the rather more useful Cruds too.Faster than a tent.......0 -
SKS X-Tra Dry Rear Mudguard

On my second season with my Crud Roadracer 2's. I went out yesterday and the roads were damp and extremely messy. I came home completely clean. I've had to tweak them a bit to get them to work with my Boardman Team Carbon and I'm also running 25mm tyres. Once you've worked out how to get them on and off your bike, they take 10-15 minutes to put on. There are plenty of tips on the Crud website and this forum has a long thread on them too.0

Cruds are great - they look a bit heath robinson, but as previous poster notes, they work well to keep you and, to a lesser extent, the drivetrain protected from the worst thrown up by the tyres.
