Am in the market for a groupset upgrade and having Campag in the past would like to purchase a Centaur 10 Speed groupset but am slightly concerned about various reports that chainset / crank arm removal is a magor drama requring a special Park puller tool tool costing £50 quid .

Any comments , feedback on Campag would be appreciated .

That'll be the PowerTorque system as opposed to the older UltraTorque. I have PT on my Velce crankset.
Bearing in mind ive never had UT so can't compare, but PT has a hollow axle and there lies the problem...having nothing to pull against with your pullers. They have a bung you insert, then the pullers...i have fabricated my own but then you have to consider the hooks of the pullers on the back of the crank and potential damage, scratching etc it may cause. I fabricated an alloy plate that sits behind the cranks to stop that.
The proper setup has all the neccessary bits, but is expensive.
You can put some stuff together but its a faff and most people wont have access to the bits you need to DIY.

TBF, the cranks dont need to come off that often unless you're like me and like to strip regularly for deep cleaning and maintenance. I'd try to get older UT cranks if you're that bothered.
  • Ok Thanks for that , guess your right about taking cranks off although i was prolly going to get the carbon cranks so guess i would have to mould some rubber or shrink wrap on the back of the pullers to prevent damage .

Ribble now have the 2013 groupsets in stock but as far as i can tell they are unchanged from 2012 .
