last year i got into quite a good routine of cycling into work its a nice 6 miles downhill in and 6 miles uphill on the way back anyone who has driven though plymouth will know what i mean lol
ive been using my epic
but i dont want to rack up loads of winter road miles on this so decided to build a work horse
current spend
frame, stx rc rear mech, stx rc front mech, stx rc cranks handle bars, stem and bar ends ebay £15 collected just down the road.
forks :D were on a rusting old bike in the woods behind my house i really did not expect them to work and there not very good LOL but they do fit (ill prob put the epic ones not it when i upgrade them in a few weeks)
wheels old set i had in the shed with tyres
seatpost is an old raceface one i had but its too small, nothing a shim could not solve
need a few bits to finish, atm i dont have a full 8 speed or 9 speed group set so i need to decide which way to go,
and thats about it :D

Similarish to my commuter which is MTB components built into a Carrera Gryphon frame, disc braked on mine though (a bit small, but see Avatar)
I did my commute on an old 21 speed, worked out the gear ratios I was using and then figured I could do it 1x9 (or 1x8) so I have a single 46T up front and an 11-26 out back, a (road so lighter) front mech locked off on the stops act as the chain guide I had to have (chain came off during shifts otherwise). going 1x8/9 will save you over half a pound, I also run rigid forks. Weight on mine with pedals is 9.75Kg.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
