Hi
I need advice on fitting some SKS Chromoplastics P35 28” inch mudguards (front at the moment)

My concerns are (see photo)
1) The bracket that fits the front brake I have had to fit at the front and not rear of the brake blocks (instructions show rear)
2) Main concern is the black plastic SECU Clips when attached to the lugs at the centre of the wheel, throw the mudguard about 40mm away from the tyre, making it impossible to fit the bracket to the brake housings, I have therefore removed them and fixed the mudguards forks to the centre of the wheel, by threading them through the wheel pin. Is this safe to ride?

I’ve not even touch the rear yet!
Thanks

can you not just slide the budguard down using the nut and bolt and fit it correctly?
  • Hi...It's already pushed in as far as it goes, I would have to cut the black end off to allow the bar to come through.

    1. Fitting to the front is fine if it works.

    2. You need to cut the stays to length if they are too long for the secu-clips - borrow or buy some bolt cutters. I would recommend using the clips as they reduce the risk of injury if something jams in the guard.
  • This website suggest that they aren't too easy to fit and that the stays are too long and require trimming down to fit. On disc brake bikes (which yours isn't obviously) you need to bend the stay around the disc brake to get them to fit. If they were the correct length for most bikes the would be too short for this.

I bought some at the weekend along with a new cassette, chain and pedals. I fitted the rest of the stuff myself but quickly gave up on the mudguards and took them back to Evans with my bike to get them to do it for me. I think they did a much better job than I would have done.
  • Okay thanks all, will cut the metal stays to suit and put the plastic SECU Clips back.

Used a hacksaw and mastic tape, cut about 20mm off both front metal stays and about 20mm off one of the rear stays each side. Job done!
