Changing Wheels and getting the spacers right

Hi Folks,
The last couple of times that I've changed/upgraded my wheels or cassette I've run into problems with spacers behind the cassette - not knowing how much I need and gears no longer being indexed correctly. I've got a new bike on the way that has basic wheels, and want to put my Mavic Kysrium Elites on instead. Currently they've got a Sram Force 10 speed cassette, but will most likely use the Shimano 105 cassette that will come with the bike.
Before I swap over - is there anyway of knowing how to get it right? Measure and compare the 2 hubs and cassettes? Or are all hubs the same, so just need to use the spacers and cassette that comes with the new bike?
If that made any sense - any help appreciated!

Thanks - that last post partly cleared it up! So I need the mavic-supplied spacer, and then another one on top for a 10 speed cassette. Its just finding out what size that second spacer needs to be…0

The mavic one is ca 3mm thick

The Shimano 10sp one is 1-1.5mm thick

Presumably you will have the Mavic one fitted now on your Ksyriums with the SRAM cassette.
The new bike should have the Shimano 10sp one fitted behind its 105 cassette, no ?0 -
Yep, the Mavic wheel currently has the mavic spacer + SRAM cassette, while the new bike's wheel (Shimano R501) has the Shimano casette + thin spacer. Question is, whether I need to use both, or just the Mavic one?0

both as in the faqs."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
